Hope

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Emily Dickinson

Inauguration Day
Barack Obama
44th President of the United States of America

I am curious, excited and hopeful
to see what the next four years will bring.

What a perfect poem for today, Catharina.

I agree with Paintandink! :-)
(Would you believe that less than an hour ago was I talking to a friend, quoting "Hope is the thing with feathers"?)

I also love the image of Lady Liberty („Liberty Enlightening the World“) in connection with today's historic inauguration.

Thank you all! It is one of my favorite poems and would you believe that I still remember it from school? It just popped in my head as I wondered what to write yesterday :-)

Lovely poem, I'd never heard it and it's so fitting. Yay, Obama!

Lauren K: Yesterday I heard them say "US President Barack Obama" on the radio and I was dreaming. It's still so surreal.
