End of an Era

I spent a lot of the past three years on trains. Almost every week I went from Vienna to Salzburg and back again. Three hours each way. While I hated the constant packing and unpacking, never being in one place for long, leaving people behind in each place - I always, always loved those three hours on the train. Those were six hours each week where I was forced to just sit still for a while and catch my breath. I read, I studied, I wrote my thesis, I looked out the window and daydreamed. And every week that view out the window looked different. There was always something new to spot, the changing seasons to observe. And now, I only have one more trip left. Next Friday will be my final exam and then I will have closed another chapter. For you it may simply mean the end of blurry pictures out the train window, for me it is the end of an era.

Yes, eras come, pass and transcend into the next one. That is the rich pagentry of life.

I wish you joy and fulfillment in your next era, whatever it may bring.

Oh, I would gladly love taking the train for six hours each week, too. It's always such a gift to have enforced daydreaming/reading/writing/drawing time without obligations.
